Migrating elephants achieve "appropriate habitat"

You have been wandering for the last year. A herd of elephants covered more than 500 kilometers in China and is now back in a suitable habitat.

Beijing – 14 elephants in China have returned to an “appropriate habitat” after more than a year of wandering.

The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the animals, which had become known worldwide, crossed a bridge over the Yuanjiang River in southwest China’s Yunnan Province on Sunday, where they say there is a suitable habitat for them.

According to Chinese media reports, the elephants had left their reserve for unknown reasons last year and moved more than 500 kilometers north. Some of the animals were diverted from overly populated areas with food. Drones and helpers monitored the elephants’ route. Roads for the pachyderms were also blocked off again and again.

After they reached the outskirts of the metropolis Kunming, the animals migrated south again, but are now still several hundred kilometers from the place of origin of their journey. dpa
