Milla Jovovich: "I'm torn inside"

She has roots in Ukraine and Russia. Model and actress Milla Jovovich is appalled by the war.

Los Angeles – Soviet-born Kiev-born US actress Milla Jovovich has reacted with dismay to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. “My blood and roots come from both Russia and Ukraine,” the 46-year-old wrote in an emotional post on Instagram.

“I am torn inside as I watch the horror unfold, the land destroyed, families displaced and their whole lives lying around them in charred fragments.”

Jovovich, also known as a model, said she was “heartbroken and speechless” as she tries to process this week’s events in her native Ukraine. “My country and my people are being bombed.” Friends and family should have gone into hiding.

She remembered the war in her father’s homeland of the former Yugoslavia and the stories her family would have shared about the trauma and horror, Jovovich explained. “War. Always war. Leaders who cannot bring peace. The never-ending juggernaut of imperialism. And people always pay with bloodshed and tears.” dpa
