Missing plane crashed in Russia

The Antonov An-26 suddenly disappeared from the radar, now there is certainty: none of the six occupants survived the crash of the machine.

Khabarovsk – A plane with six people on board that was missing in eastern Russia has crashed. None of the inmates survived the accident not far from the city of Khabarovsk, said the Russian civil defense on Thursday in the social network Telegram.

Members of a search party had run through the taiga for more than five hours before they reached the scene of the accident. A helicopter whose crew had previously discovered the debris from the air was unable to land in the mountainous landscape due to strong winds and tall trees.

The Antonov An-26 machine disappeared from the radar about 40 kilometers from Khabarovsk airport on Wednesday evening. The aircraft, which is often used for military purposes, was supposed to check navigation and radio surveillance systems in the region, according to authorities. Bad weather and darkness had made the search difficult in the meantime. The cause of the accident was initially unclear.

In July, a plane of the same type used as a passenger plane crashed on the Far Eastern peninsula of Kamchatka. None of the 28 inmates survived the accident. dpa
