OXXO and the bottler boost Femsa's earnings

After almost two years of pandemic, with restricted activities and capacity, consumption is already resuming the path of growth. This is already noticeable in the financial results of companies like Femsa.

In the fourth quarter, the firm recorded revenues of 151,542 million pesos, which represents an increase of 16.3%. Its operating flow (Ebitda) increased 12% to 23,446 million pesos and its net income was 10,100 million pesos, compared to the 730 million registered in the same period of 2020.

“As the health situation continues to improve in all markets, our consumers are increasingly returning to their normal habits and patterns, and we are fine-tuning our strategy and value propositions accordingly to stay ahead of the curve,” Daniel said in the report. Rodriguez, CEO of Femsa.

Within its divisions, the one with the best performance was Proximity (Oxxo), which represents 35% of the company’s total income. From October to December, this division registered an increase in sales of 14.4% and 12.5% in same-store sales (which are those that have been in operation for more than 12 months). In addition, its Ebitda increased 25.5% in the period.

In the report, the company explained that the results are due to a growth of 10.4% in the average ticket and 1.9% in traffic (the number of people who go), which is a reflection of the “good performance of the category of meeting, including beer”. Oxxo closed the year with 20,431 stores.

The income of the bottling unit, Coca-Cola Femsa, which contributes 35% of the total, increased 10.5% and its Ebitda rose 7.5%. For its part, its net income registered an increase of 83%.

The Health division, which represents 12% of total revenues, registered an increase of 7.3% in revenues, 5.7% in the same store comparison, and 2.1% in its Ebitda. The results reflect an increase in consumption in Chile and positive operations in Mexico and Colombia.

Revenues from the Fuels division, which contribute 7% of the total, increased 30.2%, due to a low comparison base, since in 2020 vehicle mobility was reduced due to the pandemic.

In the results of the whole year, Femsa reported an increase in income of 12.8% and 14.5% in its Ebitda. While its net profit was 37,678 million pesos, compared to 3,756 million in 2020, due to the increase in profits in all its units and an increase in the results of Heineken (where Femsa has a stake).

Rodríguez indicated that in recent months “we have also made significant progress in our digital trading platforms, building and strengthening an organization dedicated to this purpose, attracting the right talent and launching OXXO Premia and Spin by OXXO in Mexico, with encouraging initial results.” .
