Prince Harry visited Africa several times as a young boy. His most recent action against drilling in the Okavango river basin has now also brought an Oscar winner on board.

One of the most popular Hollywood stars is now fighting together with the Duke of Sussex against the “imminent threat” facing a region in Africa that Harry loves. Together with him, US actor Leonardo DiCaprio (46) is now calling for an end to the “destruction” by drilling in the Okavango river basin *.

The Okavango River Basin is a river system that crosses Angola, Botswana, and Namibia and provides water to nearly a million people and countless wildlife. The Canadian company Reconnaissance Energy Africa (ReconAfrica) has been perforating the species-rich area with a license for exploratory drilling since 2020, according to People.com.
In a post published by Prince Harry * and the Namibian environmental activist, conservationist and poet Reinhold Mangundu on October 14 in the Washington Post, both warned of the “permanent destruction” caused by the drilling. They are calling for an immediate suspension of oil and gas drilling in the area of just over 14,000 square kilometers, according to a press release from Re: wild.
