Production and exports of cars soar more than 30% in September

Car production in Mexico soared again during September and exports experienced their second best month of the year, reported Inegi.

The production of light vehicles in the country grew 31.35% in its annual comparison, during September. Due to the shortage of inputs such as semiconductors, the automotive industry in Mexico had shown annual contractions after the return of the pandemic.

However, an improvement was observed as of April of this year and in August, the industry had one of its best months of the year, with a growth in production of 31.36% per year.

Exports are also on the rise and recorded their second consecutive month of growth in September, after a drop in July. In its annual comparison, exports grew 33.03% in September, with 259,792 units shipped mainly to the United States.

So far this year, 2 million 123,261 cars have been exported from Mexico, which represents a growth of 5.39% compared to the same period of the previous year.

On the other hand, during September, 85,842 cars were sold in the domestic market in Mexico, a growth of 11.58% compared to last year.

However, sales were lower than in August, when 91,124 light vehicles were sold in Mexico.
