In the racism dispute over the name of the Friedberger “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren” the fronts have hardened. Now the AfD is also getting involved – with a inflammatory motion.
Friedberg – Now even the AfD is involved. The name dispute about the “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren” in the city of Friedberg has been raging for over a year. The fire of the racism debate is still burning. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Only a few months ago the activists from “United Colors Of Change” held a demonstration in front of the Friedberg pharmacy. It was the second of its kind within a year.
The name of the pharmacy has not changed so far, the fronts seem to have hardened. Both parties, the pharmacy group around owner Kerstin Podszus as well as representatives of “United Colors Of Change”, had meanwhile sat down at the table for a conversation. That was at the end of 2020. The result: There was none.
AfD intervenes in the racism dispute over Friedberger “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren”
But back to the demo in summer 2021 and above all: to the AfD. Because just a few days after the demonstration in front of the Hof pharmacy in Friedberg, the AfD parliamentary group submitted an urgency request to the Wetterau district council. In it, Michael Kuger, leader of the AfD parliamentary group in the Wetterau district assembly, demands that the district assembly oppose the renaming of the “Hof-Apotheke zum Mohren”.
Said application has been submitted to the FR. It literally says as a demand of the AfD: “The Wetterau district council is unreservedly against attempts to rename the old-established farm pharmacy to Mohren in Friedberg.” applicable law ”. This is an “attack on our culture and identity”, even more: it “shows totalitarian traits”. The application does not state to what extent “United Colors Of Change” is supposed to have placed itself above applicable law.
From the perspective of the AfD, it is “the task of the district to stand behind the owner in order to counteract the psychological terror”. Another reason is given orally. The application was rejected by the Wetterau district council. There was no reaction or comment by the district council to the request of the AfD.
After AfD application: Friedberger pharmacy owner takes a position
Instead, the Department for Democracy Promotion and Cross-Phenomenon Prevention of Extremism (DEXT) wrote a statement on the AfD’s application at the beginning of September. It was never officially published.
Owner Kerstin Podszus thinks that the AfD is now jumping to the side of the Friedberger pharmacy in the name dispute, as she emphasizes to the FR. She wanted “nothing to do with the AfD,” explains Podszus when asked. It is unclear how the racism debate will continue. From Podszus’ point of view, the dispute has flattened enormously since the demo in summer. But that should only be the notorious calm before the storm. (nc)
