The love of Queen Sonja * and King Harald V * (84) was initially not a good star. In 1959, the then Crown Prince met the young Norwegian Sonja Haraldsen, and the relationship between the two not only caused an uproar in the palace. Sonja’s bourgeois origin was a thorn in the side of Harald’s father, King Olav V (87, † 1991), and for years the monarch refused the couple his consent to marry. In the recently published book “Sonja. Samtaler med Dronningen ”(German:“ Sonja. Conversations with the Queen ”) by journalist Alf van der Hagen (59) reports the 84-year-old from the magazine Dagbladet about a trip to France in 1965, which she undertook to distance herself win: “It was nice to get away from the newspaper articles, from anonymous letters and phone calls.” When asked by van der Hagen, Sonja also confesses that with her trip she wanted to dispel the feeling of not being wanted: “Yes, I did I felt that way.
