RKI reports more than 13,500 new corona cases – immense differences between the federal states

The incidence in Germany has risen slightly again. The number of positive corona tests is still high. But an important value sinks.

  • The Robert Koch Institute * (RKI) reports a nationwide 7-day incidence * of 75.7.
  • The hospitalization rate increases compared to the previous week.
  • The current number of corona cases from September 2nd can be found here.

Berlin – In the past 24 hours, 13,531 new corona infections and 23 further deaths were recorded. This comes from the data on the Covid-19 dashboard of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday morning.

Corona in Germany: incidence now back at 75.7

The 7-day incidence rose again slightly to 75.7. The day before, the value had fallen again for the first time and was 74.8; a week ago at 61.3. However, there are immense differences in the regions. North Rhine-Westphalia is at the top with 120.3, Saxony-Anhalt has the lowest incidence with 16.9.

RKI: Hospitalization rate rises to 1.75

The fourth corona wave is different, many say, but the number of cases is increasing unchecked.

The so-called hospitalization rate * is also a new value in the corona pandemic. An average of about ten days elapse between a Covid infection and hospitalization. The hospitalization incidence therefore reflects the infection situation with a delay.

According to the RKI situation report from Tuesday evening, “330 hospitalizations with Covid-19 were reported, the 7-day incidence of hospitalized cases is 1.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants”. A week ago, the new index was 1.28. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

  • Total hospitalization rate 1.75 (as of September 1, 2021)
  • Hospitalized people aged 60 and over – 2.10 (as of September 1, 2021)

The R value has long since fallen below the critical level

The RKI estimates the number of reproductions – R-value for short – at 0.97. The number of reproductions means that 100 infected people infect 97 other people. If the value is below 1 for a longer period, the number of cases also decreases. (Previous day: 1.08; previous week: 1.09)

Corona in Germany – The current RKI case numbers (as of September 1, 2021)

  • 3,956,387 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with Sars-CoV-2 so far.
  • According to the RKI, 92,223 deaths have been recorded so far.
  • The RKI indicates the number of those who have recovered on Wednesday morning as 3,744,600.
  • There are currently around 119,000 active corona cases in Germany.

Corona in Germany: When is the situation critical?

More and more people in Germany are vaccinated (60 percent of the population completely). In the future, the federal states should be able to largely determine on-site when, due to too many corona patients in the clinics, stricter everyday restrictions apply. This is provided by a proposal from Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) for new criteria for assessing the corona situation, which the cabinet launched on Tuesday.

In addition to the hospitalization rate – the number of corona patients in hospitals per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days – “other indicators” should also be taken into account. The Bundestag is now discussing the new regulation and is expected to pass it next week.

Bavaria presented plans for a new regulation on Tuesday. A new hospital traffic light should switch to yellow if more than 1,200 new corona patients come to hospitals nationwide within seven days. Then the state government wants to adopt further measures such as contact restrictions. The traffic light should switch to red for more than 600 corona patients in intensive care units in Bavaria. Then the measures should be tightened further.
