A large part of the political decisions during the pandemic are made on the basis of the corona figures from the Robert Koch Institute. Now there are doubts about the vaccination values.
Berlin – On Saturday morning (August 14), Health Minister Jens Spahn * announced the current vaccination numbers via Twitter. The fact that the CDU * politician publishes the number of Germans who have been vaccinated against the corona virus * has long been a daily routine. But are Spahn and the federal government around Chancellor Angela Merkel * referring to wrong values?
A new survey at least feeds doubts. Spahn’s ministry receives its data from the Robert Koch Institute * (RKI) in Berlin. The RKI provides the official figures for corona vaccinations * in Germany.
Corona vaccinations in Germany: The survey provides significantly higher values for first vaccinations than the RKI
By July 13, the survey institute Infratest dimap and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) surveyed 1,820 people aged 18 and over who were eligible to vote. The representative survey called “Corona Compass” showed that 75 percent of 18 to 59 year olds said they had already received a vaccination. The poll value in mid-July was 16 percentage points higher than the RKI figures at that time (59 percent).
Mathias Huebener from DIW also finds a striking difference. “This indicates that the actual vaccination rate is significantly higher than the statistics show,” the researcher explained in an interview with Der Spiegel .
The RKI also published its own survey on the corona vaccination rate * on Wednesday. The result was similar to that of the “Corona Compass” from Infratest dimap and the DIW. 79 percent of 18 to 59 year olds said they had already received the first vaccination against the coronavirus *.
At the same time, the official vaccination monitoring of the RKI saw this number at around 59 percent – a difference of 20 percentage points. A circumstance that should now bring politics and the RKI into acute need of explanation. After all, the institute’s official figures were used, among other things, by the federal-state conference as the basis for its decisions *.
Corona first vaccinations in Germany: Expert believes that RKI numbers are five million too low
Meanwhile, DIW researcher Huebener is convinced that at least 70 percent of 18 to 59 year olds had their first vaccination behind them by July 13th. Then an estimated five million more people would have been immunized with a primary vaccination than the RKI had statistically recorded.
DIW expert Huebener considers large deviations from the calculated 70 percent to be extremely unlikely. These would amount to a maximum of two to three percentage points. There are also hardly any arguments for false information from the respondents, especially since the “Corona Compass” online survey was carried out anonymously.
Corona first vaccinations in Germany: Current survey results from the end of July confirm the first findings
The survey by Infratest dimap and the DIW is continuous and is therefore still ongoing. In the meantime, the number of those who were vaccinated for the first time among the survey participants has increased further.
By July 28, 80 percent said they had had their first vaccination. Extrapolated, this results in a value for the total population of 67 percent first vaccinations. In comparison, the RKI value at this point in time was 61 percent, six points lower (this corresponds to almost five million people). (kh) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
