Scientists predict that the coronavirus will be a seasonal virus

Since the coronavirus pandemic began in early 2020, numerous research studies have been carried out to find the cause of the disease, and also to predict its long-term evolution. Now, scientists from the University of Utah (United States) have published in the journal ‘Viruses’ the results of an analysis that they have carried out based on a series of mathematical models. They believe that the coronavirus will become a seasonal virus, like a common cold or flu. Dr. Fred Adler, professor of mathematics and biological sciences at the University of Utah, explains that the study’s findings show a possible future that is not yet known. has addressed 100%. Between now and 2030, the severity of the coronavirus will progressively decrease as citizens develop immunity. According to the findings of this research, the changes in the disease could be caused by the adaptation of the immune response of people, and not so much by modifications of the virus itself as previously believed. Although SARS-CoV-2 is the best-known member of all, there are other viruses in the family that circulate in the human population and cause seasonal coronaviruses. Several tests indicate that one of the members of this family of viruses could have been severe to late nineteenth century, giving rise to the so-called Russian flu. This is what leads scientists to think that the exact same thing could happen with SARS-CoV-2: that its gravity decreases over time. To put their theory into practice, they built a series of mathematical models with evidence about it. the body’s immune response to SARS-CoV-2, and simulated a series of scenarios. This is how they demonstrated that the population will have a mild predisposition to the disease in the long term. In this way, in the coming years we could speak of the coronavirus as a seasonal virus. Models show that, as more adults become immune to the disease, either because of having passed the Covid-19 or having received the vaccine, serious infections drop almost to zero in the next decade. Ultimately, the only ones who will be exposed to the virus for the first time will be children, who are less likely to suffer serious complications.
