According to a study published in the British Journal of Educational Psychology , seeing the letter A (for "approved" in English , equivalent to the B for "good" used by teachers to indicate that an exercise has been solved correctly) can help a student get better grades . On the contrary, seeing the letter F (for "failure" in English, equivalent to the "M" for "bad" in Spanish), negatively affects the result of an exam.
This has been demonstrated by scientists from the University of Missouri (USA) through a series of experiments with 131 students. In the experiments they also found that other letters, such as "J", had no effect on the test results. "Unconsciously, seeing the letter A makes students approach the exam in order to do well, While exposing themselves to the letter F makes them wait for the error ?, they clarify. "Students are more sensitive than we thought about the letters that imply a grade before performing a cognitive task," the researchers conclude.
