Seniors can exchange their driver's license for public transport tickets

In the name of traffic safety: In Baden-Württemberg, older people should increasingly use buses and trains. A special offer should make the change easier.

Stuttgart – Drivers aged 65 and over will soon be able to exchange their driving license for a year for a free annual public transport ticket in many regions of Baden-Württemberg.

Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) announced that the Ministry of Transport had signed a corresponding cooperation agreement with many of the state’s transport associations. The aim is to make buses and trains more attractive for older people and make traffic safer.

Over a third of the road users fatally injured in road traffic are 65 years and older, said Hermann. As a driver, you are also the main culprit in more than two out of three cases of accidents.

The offer is to apply from December in 14 transport associations. The condition for the exchange is the primary residence in the area of the transport association. dpa
