Several dead in a gas explosion in a residential building in Russia

Gas explosions are not uncommon in Russia: seven people were recently killed in Moscow. Now there are more deaths to complain about after a new incident.

[Moscow -] Several people died, including a child, in a gas explosion in a residential building in Russia. Three bodies were recovered from the rubble near the city of Jelez around 350 kilometers south of Moscow, reported several agencies, citing the investigators.

Accordingly, there was an eleven-year-old girl among the dead. Six people were injured in the accident on Saturday night. Rescue workers continued the search for possible further victims during the day.

Photos and videos on social networks showed that part of the multi-storey building had collapsed completely. At the time of the explosion, 25 people are said to have been in the house. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

In Russia, gas explosions occur again and again, especially in autumn: when the heating season has not yet started, but it is already cold, many people keep their apartments warm with a gas stove. Just last week, seven residents were killed in an explosion in a skyscraper near Moscow. [dpa]
