Silvia & Carl Gustaf in sharp criticism: Controversial trip to Dubai

Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden are flying to the United Arab Emirates for the Expo. However, the travel plans are not going to go down well everywhere.

Stockholm – Before Christmas, Silvia (77) and Carl Gustaf von Sweden (75) have another important date in their calendars. The royal couple is traveling to Dubai * to represent their home country at Expo2020.

Silvia & Carl Gustaf in sharp criticism: Controversial trip to Dubai

A good six hours by flight separate Stockholm and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. King Carl XVI. Gustaf * and Queen Silvia willingly undertake this trip soon, in order to be there for three days at the world exhibition Expo2020, which is under the motto “Connecting Minds – Creating the Future”. Sweden will present itself there with its own pavilion, which is called “The Forest”. Innovations and sustainable solutions from the country are presented there.

In recent months, the royals have acted more often as hosts themselves and welcomed, among other things, the Spanish royal couple * or Federal President Steinmeier (65) in Stockholm *. Now you should actually sit back and relax and enjoy your role as guests in the city of superlatives. After all, Dubai offers every imaginable luxury – but at the same time it is also a broad target for sharp criticism.

Silvia & Carl Gustaf in sharp criticism: advertising for the Emirates?

The absolutist monarchy is a popular travel destination for celebrities. However, the trips to Dubai by actresses, influencers and the like have not gone unnoticed for a long time. Human rights organizations repeatedly point out the considerable democratic deficits of the emirate, which should not be advertised. The dramatic escape of Princess Latifa * (36) is still well remembered. The daughter of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Muhammad bin Raschid Al Maktum (72), said she was kidnapped and held captive on behalf of her father. Princess Haya bint al-Hussein (47), one of the sheikh’s wives, also fled to Great Britain from her husband and his regime.

That now, of all people, King Carl XVI. and Queen Silvia * to travel to Dubai, even if not for pure private pleasure, offends some human rights activists with a Western understanding of democracy. * 24royal.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
