SoftBank appoints Karla Berman as its new director of operations in Mexico

SoftBank announced the integration of Karla Berman as its new Director of Operations for Mexico, with the aim of promoting entrepreneurship in the region. Berman becomes the first woman to lead the company’s operations in a Latin American country.

In this new position created by the company, Berman, who will report directly to Alex Szapiro, operating partner of SoftBank Latin America, will be in charge of leading all the operational needs of the portfolio of companies in Mexico, by providing consulting and guidance in all aspects of its business: e-commerce, logistics, product, human resources, technology, marketing and communications, the Japanese firm said in a press release.

All this will be carried out through the application of the two Latin American funds of Softbank: Latin America Fund, created in 2019 with 5 billion dollars, and Latin America Fund II of 2021, with 3 billion dollars of capital. With them, SoftBank has invested in the vast majority of Latin American unicorns, among which Kavak, Rappi, GBM, Bitso, Clip and Konfío stand out, among others.

“My commitment is to apply a fresh vision in the decision-making of the company and continue with the acceleration of the ideas and projects of our Latin American entrepreneurs. My arrival joins a timely project that today is the protagonist and a benchmark for investment in the region, “said Berman, in the statement.

The work and vision of Latin American entrepreneurs gives us the confidence to accelerate our growth and integrate Karla and her team of specialists in order to redouble our commitment to these emerging companies ”, commented Juan Franck, who will continue to lead the Investment team of SoftBank Latin America Funds in Mexico.

Before joining SoftBank Group, Karla Berman was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for conversational commerce and artificial intelligence startup Yalo. and responsible for YouTube’s commercial strategy for Latin America.
