Berlin – Can Germany slowly breathe easy again after weeks and months of renunciation in the third corona wave? Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) and the President of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) Prof. Dr. Lothar Wieler on Friday around 10 a.m. at the Federal Press Conference in Berlin. At least one thing is certain that the corona statistics reported this week give hope for a light at the end of the tunnel.

Spahn and Wieler on the current Corona situation: Infection numbers give hope

The 7-day incidence * in Germany fell continuously from day to day and fell below the threshold of 130 on Thursday. At the district level, more and more districts have passed the critical threshold of 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days in the past few days which the federal emergency brake allows easing. The number of reproductions * reported by the RKI on a daily basis leveled off well below the critical value of 1.0 over the course of the week, which is an indicator of a subsiding infection process.

Another milestone was also achieved in Germany last week when it came to vaccination. After over a million vaccine doses * were administered in one day on Wednesday, over 30 percent of the total population have now received at least the first vaccination. Due to this progress, the Bundestag passed relaxations for fully vaccinated people on Thursday. A decision that the Federal Council still has to ratify on Friday.
