The corona situation in Spain is coming to a head. As the number of Covid-19 infections increases, the country is classified as a high-incidence area. Influence on vacationers?
Mallorca (Spain) – Since Tuesday, July 27, 2021, both Spain and the Netherlands have been listed as a corona high incidence area. A step by the federal government that results from the increasing number of infections in both countries. When entering Germany from there, additional requirements apply.

Corona incidence in Spain: Nationwide value of 385.4 – Balearic Islands particularly badly affected
As the “Mallorca Zeitung” reports, citing the Balearic Ministry of Health, 551 new corona infections were registered in the region from Sunday to Monday, July 26th. The new infections with the corona virus are distributed as follows: 367 in Mallorca, 121 in Ibiza, 56 in Menorca and seven in Formentera.

In contrast, there is a slightly decreased 7-day incidence, the value of which on Mallorca was 340.9 on July 26th (previous day: 382.4). Including the neighboring islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera, the total for the Balearic Islands is 386.6. The 7-day incidence for the whole of Spain is 385.4 new infections per 100,000 population (as of July 27, 2021).
Hard corona rules for German travelers returning from Spain: up to ten days quarantine
Lots of numbers, but what exactly do these values mean for holidaymakers who are in Spain? Because the country is classified as a high incidence area, German return travelers * have to go into quarantine for ten days. However, a negative corona test can shorten this to five days. The quarantine requirement only applies to people who are not fully vaccinated or have not recovered.
According to dpa, very few German tourists would have spent their vacation on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Mallorca before the new classification by the federal government came into force. This decision has already been criticized by the travel industry. In general, Spain remains a popular holiday destination for Germans.
The German Travel Association (DRV) speaks of around 200,000 German package travelers who would have spent their vacation in Spain in the week of July 19-25. There would also be another 200,000 individual holidaymakers from Germany who spend their holidays in Spain.
Delta variant accounts for around 70 percent of new corona infections in Spain – the federal government is taking action
It is above all the delta variant * that is making the southern European country difficult to cope with. According to the global science initiative “Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data” (GISAID), the corona mutant made up 71.4 percent of new infections in Spain * in the past four weeks (based on July 26th).
Accordingly, the federal government feels compelled to act and tightened the rules for travelers returning. Due to the classification of Spain as a high incidence area, digital travel registration is mandatory *. A negative corona test must be proven by air travelers at the place of departure.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the classification as a high incidence area is based on a two-stage assessment. First of all, it will be determined whether there have been more than 200 newly infected people per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. Thereupon, based on “further qualitative and quantitative criteria”, a check is made as to whether or not there is an increased risk of infection despite falling below or exceeding the incidence. * Kreiszeitung.de, 24hamburg.de and merkur.de are offers from IPPEN.MEDIA.
