euler The particles that make up liquids and gases do not remain fixed despite the stability of their media, unlike solids. Researchers at the CSIC have found that the molecules describe "extremely complex" streamlines, according to one of those responsible for the discovery, the researcher at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences Alberto Enciso. In this way, together with Daniel Peralta, they have deciphered their trajectories by solving a mathematical problem that had been open since the 1960s.

The foundations of the work, published in the journal "Annals of Mathematics", date back some 250 years ago, when the Swiss physicist and mathematician Leonhard Euler postulated the equation for stationary fluids, which was baptized with his surname. Euler's work tried to analyze what laws of motion govern the behavior of the particles of a fluid in a steady state.

His research would therefore be applicable to the molecules that make up the content of a glass of water. Although the liquid is apparently stable, its particles are subjected to continuous movements within its medium. Although it was already suspected that the trajectories of molecules are not simple , this fact had not been proven mathematically until now .

3 mathematical constants in nature

Today is International Math Day, or Pi Day. Apart from the one that defines the relationship between the diameter and the circumference, what other mathematical constants do we find expressed in nature?

An asteroid that was going to hit Earth in 2023 turns out to be...

For a few days in January, asteroid 2022 AE1 became the most dangerous asteroid observed in more than a decade.

These 5 animals have learned to use mathematics

Of all the concepts that express quantity, one, two, three... the most difficult to understand is zero. Are there animals that master this concept?

They measure the totality of the information contained in the universe

The information encoded in the particles of the visible universe, the fifth state of matter, is equal to 6 times 10 raised to 80 bits.

Dunbar number: how many friends can a person have?

Thirty years ago, an anthropologist theorized that humans can have social interactions with about 150 people. How did you come to this conclusion? Is it true in all cases?
