For days, emergency services have been fighting devastating fires in the Mediterranean. At least in some regions there are signs of improvement.

It is a desperate fight against the flames: In Greece, the rain fire brigade comes to help with extinguishing. In Italy, on the other hand, the highest heat wave level is proclaimed for many cities.

There is no end in sight to the extreme heat spell in Italy - even European heat records may be shaking. In Turkey and Greece, the situation appears to have calmed down somewhat overall.

In many countries, emergency services have been fighting flames for days. While the situation in Greece has eased slightly for the time being, terrifying news is coming from Algeria.

Soldiers who were supposed to help in the fire area were among the dead. More than 100 people were saved from the flames. A wall of fire ten kilometers long has formed in the Peloponnese.

In Algeria soldiers die fighting the flames, on the Greek peninsula of Peloponnese the situation is getting worse.

Several Mediterranean countries are currently fighting severe forest fires. More and more fires are breaking out in Algeria - with devastating consequences. Dozens of soldiers die in the rescue operations.
