Concavenator corcovatus is a new carnivorous dinosaur from the Lower Cretaceous (about 125 million years ago) found at the Las Hoyas site in Cuenca. Studied by researchers from the UNED and the UAM, the specimen is the most complete articulated dinosaur skeleton in the Iberian Peninsula, and one of the best preserved in Europe.
Approximately 79 million years ago, a stout feathered dinosaur similar to the Velociraptor, but with two sharp claws on each foot, caused terror in what is now Romania. His name: 'Balaur bondoc', which means "stout dragon".
Scientists at the California Institute of Technology have developed a novel method to measure the body temperature of extinct dinosaurs from their skeletal remains, teeth and even egg shells. "It's not like traveling back in time and putting a thermometer on the animal, but it comes very close," explained Robert Eagle, a co-author of the study.
British and American researchers have discovered a new species of raptor dinosaur that they have called 'Linheraptor exquisitus' and that belongs to the velociraptor family. The study on the fossil has been led by Xu Xing, from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is published in the journal 'Zootaxa'.
A team of American paleontologists has discovered a new species of dinosaur that they have named Abydosaurus mcintoshi. They belong to the family of giant long-necked, long-tailed herbivorous dinosaurs known as brachyosaurs, a genus of sauropods that lived in the late Jurassic period, approximately 150 million years ago.
Chinese paleontologists have discovered more than 3,000 dinosaur footprints in a region of eastern China. The tracks, which probably date back more than 100 million years, appeared after more than three months of excavations at a site near the city of Zhucheng, in the coastal province of Shandong, a region in which since the years 60 50 tons of dinosaur bones have been found.
A new member of a peculiar group of dinosaurs, the alvarezsaurids, with long legs and short arms, is 63 million years older than the rest of its "relatives", as published today in the journal Science. Its discoverers claim that it is an important primitive member of the lineage that includes birds and their closest theropod relatives.
A team of paleontologists has found 220-million-year-old fossils of a feathered, carnivorous, bipedal dinosaur, the remote precursor of Tyrannosaurus rex, suggesting that the dinosaurs arose in South America and then spread around the world.
