The first panoramic image of Mars taken by Curiosity

The navigation cameras of 'Curiosity' have already been activated, after its landing on Mars last Monday, and have provided a great self-portrait of the spacecraft and a 360-degree panorama (above) where the new home of the explorer is shown in the Gale crater.

The first color image of Mars taken by Curiosity

The first color image of the Martian landscape sent by the Curiosity rover from the red planet was taken yesterday, hours after landing, by the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) instrument. The NASA team in charge of the mission calls this day (August 6, 2012) Sun 1, which is the first Martian day of operations.

Six curious facts about Curiosity

Curiosity, the rover for the red planet also known as the Mars Science Lab (MSL), has just arrived at its destination. We put together some curious figures from this new Martian rover that will provide us with important data about Mars.

Curiosity lands on Mars and sends its first image of the red planet

The Curiosity rover, the most advanced rover that NASA has sent to Mars so far, has successfully completed its landing on the surface of the red planet, where it arrived at 05.31 GMT (07.31 Spanish time), that is, a little more late than planned. The journey has lasted 36 weeks, and has traveled a distance of 248 million kilometers.

Interview with the robot Curiosity

After visiting the Curiosity Rover at the Kennedy Space Center prior to its launch on November 26, 2011, we had another conversation with the rover, now that it is about to land on the Martian surface.

Video: Video: How Curiosity will reach the surface of Mars

In the early morning of August 5-6, 2012 Curiosity will reach the surface of Mars. In this video you can see how it will enter the atmosphere, what problems can arise during approach maneuvers, and so on. Do not miss one of the most important moments of space exploration in recent times.

They find a fifth moon on Pluto

Using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, a team of astronomers has found a fifth moon around the dwarf planet Pluto. The satellite appears to be irregular in shape, measuring 10 to 24 kilometers in diameter and making a circular orbit around the planet in the same plane as the rest of the moons.

They discover a planet with a tail

American scientists from NASA and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have discovered a rocky planet so close to its star that it is disintegrating, and according to forecasts it will disappear completely within 100 million years. According to the researchers in the Astrophysical Journal, the planet orbits every 15 hours around its star, called KIC 12557548 and located 1,500 light years from Earth. And it has a long tail of debris, similar to that of a comet.
