Humans and nature are suffering from very high temperatures in some US states these days. In some places, values of over 45 degrees Celsius are reached.
In Bielefeld, a man left his dog in his completely closed car without water for several hours in high summer temperatures because he had something to do. The police had to intervene brutally and published a photo of the suffering animal that tears your heart apart.
Large parts of the country are groaning under the heat: The German Weather Service predicts up to 37 degrees for eastern Germany. Towards the weekend there could be heavy thunderstorms.
Sunny and hot: Very warm air and record temperatures make Germany sizzle. Not even at night is there a chance to cool down in many places. The forests suffer from this - and so do the birds.
It will probably be weeks before tram traffic in Karlsruhe returns to normal. Due to heat damage, almost all of the local public transport there has failed.
