The asteroid known as 'the Beast' approaches Earth

Its name is not accidental. The asteroid dubbed "the Beast" is approximately 325 meters in diameter and was discovered just two months ago. The fact that an asteroid of this magnitude has gone unnoticed by astronomers has puzzled the scientific world.

The asteroid in question, 2014 HQ124, will pass near our planet this weekend , but there is no risk of collision. This huge asteroid, similar to that of a Nimitz aircraft carrier, will move at 14 kilometers per second ; that is, 17 times faster than shooting a rifle.

The moment when it will pass closest to the Earth's spatial contour will be on Sunday, June 8 at 05.56 GMT, according to the Slooh observatory project and will pass approximately three times the distance between the Earth and the Moon .

This huge asteroid was discovered just two months ago , on April 23, by the Wide Field Infrared Explorer (WISE), NASA's telescope. Despite having ruled out an impact, if it did, it would be comparable to the energy deployment of a hydrogen bomb.
