'The Big Bang Theory', a window to science

On September 24, 2007 , Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady showed the world their creation for the first time, the fruit of their work. It was a humorous series with a narrative style sitcom (situation comedy) in which the most remarkable and novel of the concept were the protagonists themselves . That day we met Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Rajesh ; a group of scientists with serious socialization problems and a passion for comics, series and geek culture that went “beyond Orion”. ‘ The Big Bang Theory ‘ started as if it were the very beginning of a universe that had many things to teach us .

Although, by its nature and plot arcs, the series is mainly comic and its followers see it for the characteristic humor of its characters, the world of physics occupies a very important place in fiction . All of its protagonists, except Penny (and maybe Howard, who is only an engineer), are respected scientists in their respective fields and that makes much of their life structured by and for science . More or less directly, the episodes of ‘ The Big Bang Theory ‘ include mentions of major milestones and discoveries in the fields of physics, biology or space engineering.

From the very song of the series , which summarizes the millions of years of evolution of the universe since its creation, or that first scene of the pilot episode in which Sheldon explained the laws of genetics in his own way , science has been gaining ground and he has become one more character (a very loved one). This group of nerds has debated about string theory, dark matter, time travel, the Schrödinger’s cat paradox, the Manhattan project, parallel universes or the Doppler effect ; an extensive background ranging from Newton’s law of gravity to Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity.

In addition to being funny, ‘ The Big Bang Theory ‘ has earned a special place in the hearts of its fans for starting from an original premise and having known how to combine comedy, references to popular culture and the broad presence of science in its arguments. The series knocked three times and the audience opened the door with enthusiasm and enthusiasm.
