The edition was carried out by Antonio Álvarez de la Rosa, professor of French Literature at the University of La Laguna (Canary Islands, Spain) and a deep connoisseur of the author’s life and work.
Love and eroticism, as he showed in Madame Bovary ; education as a reflection of constituted power; literature, art and reading as tables of salvation; death as a corollary of life; human stupidity and clichés; religion and his contempt for the churches are some of the themes that appear in Flaubert’s correspondence.

The letters are arranged chronologically by stages of their existence to highlight the most relevant of his biography and get to know the people he alludes to in his letters.
