It’s dark again in the idyllic Mozart city of Salzburg: the corpse of a woman is floating in a suitcase in the Salzach. The criminal case once again requires the cross-border investigations of two commissioners.

For the seventh time, “Die Toten von Salzburg” will bring Major Palfinger (Florian Teichtmeister), who is sitting in a wheelchair, and his Bavarian colleague Hubert Mur (Michael Fitz) together again.
The crime series with the rustic humor has firmly established itself in the ZDF program since the first episode in 2016. Director Erhard Riedlsperger once again stages the story in the episode “Treibgut” (The Second, Wednesday, 8:15 pm) with a keen sense of regional flavor. The book was contributed by the duo Silvia Wohlmut and Klaus Ortner. “Die Toten von Salzburg” offer solid evening entertainment that is sometimes a little too bold, clichéd.
Inspector Palfinger is surprised when he hears about his brother’s new job: Sebastian (Simon Hatzl) is a tourist guide. But not in mass tourism, as he says. “Organic tourism” is his magic word. Palfinger is hoping for tips from his brother. Because the dead, who was fished in a suitcase from the Salzach, was also a tour guide – and at the same time the friend of Konstantin, the son of the wealthy bus travel entrepreneur Rudi Mandl (Harald Schrott).
At the same time, there is a little social criticism hidden behind the crime case involving the dead tour guide: namely, the urge of many people to huddle in touristically attractive places – which, like Salzburg, also make a living from tourism. A murder could damage the shiny city facade. Palfinger is all the more challenged to clear up the case quickly.
Because the victim comes from Traunstein, the sullen colleague Mur from Bavaria is back on board. The investigator Irene (Fanny Krausz), who suddenly comes into focus herself, stands between the opposing commissioners. Does she have a drug problem? Now it is up to the colleague to help the young woman out of a tight spot. At the very end, Palfinger’s boss, Hofrat Alfons Seywald (Erwin Steinhauer), presented the team with a surprise. dpa
