Herd immunity is getting “closer” in Andalusia. The success of the Board’s vaccination plan has accelerated the deadlines and forecasts point to the fact that by the second week of July , that is, in less than a month, 70% of the target population of the community will have already received the complete guideline. of the Covid-19 vaccine .
This was announced this Wednesday by the President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno , who predicts a speedy “economic recovery” that will allow the recovery of “employment”, “prosperity” and “well-being”.
Andalusia has administered a total of 6,116,399 doses of the coronavirus vaccine until this Tuesday, June 15: a total of 2,336,081 Andalusians already have the complete vaccination schedule and 3,945,926 have at least one dose.
Thus, Andalusia registers 55.87% of the population over 16 years of age with one dose and 33.07% with the complete regimen.
Since this Tuesday, people born in 1982 and 1981 , that is, who turn or have turned 39 or 40 during 2021 can make an appointment for the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. In addition, the Board will begin to vaccinate 11,000 students benefiting from the Erasmus scholarship in the next few days before they go abroad to develop their studies.
“Message of optimism”
The Andalusian leader, during his speech in Seville at the opening of the XIII CCOO-A congress, wanted to convey a ” message of optimism , because science is allowing us to advance at a very important rate”, referring to mass vaccinations against the coronavirus that are developing.
For the president, “herd immunity is closer every day and every week”, so that it is expected that in the second week of July, 70% of the Andalusian target population (those over 16 years of age) will already be immunized against the coronavirus, without there being any “delay” at this time.
After pointing out that, logically, it is a forecast that is subject to the doses of vaccines that have to arrive, he stressed that Andalusia continues to break weekly vaccination records, with some 650,000 doses supplied in the last week.
The “shield” of herd immunity, according to the president, “will allow us to reactivate the economy , rebuild all the damaged tissue and start working to generate employment, prosperity and well-being.”
