The longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century will take place next morning. The astronomical phenomenon will only be visible from northern India, eastern Nepal, northern Bangladesh, Bhutan, northern tip of Myanmar, central China, and the Pacific Ocean, including the Ryukyu, Marshall and Kiribati islands. Its total duration will be 6 minutes and 39 seconds and its maximum point will occur at 02:35:21 UTC, about 100 km south of the Bonin Islands, southeast of Japan.
So that no one misses the eclipse, a group of experts in astronomy and scientific dissemination, led by the astronomer Miquel Serra-Ricart, have traveled to the surroundings of the city of Chongqing (China) to observe and broadcast the event , which will be able to be followed, live and delayed, through the website www.eclipsesolar.es.
During a solar eclipse, the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, exposing the outermost region of the solar atmosphere, called the corona . Their study is of great interest to astronomers. In addition, the decrease in luminosity during these types of eclipses provides an opportunity to observe bright stars and planets in the daytime sky.
