Faced with the crisis that the Casa de Poesía Silva Foundation has suffered for more than five years, the Secretariat of Culture, Recreation and Sports of Bogotá invites its Board of Directors in a statement to act and reorganize its administrative situations.

Currently the situation is so serious that even winning the public calls of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Culture, Recreation and Sports for this year 2021, the director has refused to legalize the contracts, on the grounds of the economic deficit and the lack of of own resources that must be provided as compensation for the projects and that are essential for the operation of the House. Similarly, different officials and former officials have denounced that they are owed loans that they made to the Silva Poetry House and that they corresponded to payments such as their severance pay. Among other difficulties.
Given the situation, the Secretariat of Culture, Recreation and Sports of Bogotá spoke in a statement in which it states that between 2018 and 2020, the entity received $ 520,526,874 through the District Portfolio of Stimuli from the Culture, Recreation and Sports sector. And he added that in 2021 $ 166,729,500 was awarded to the entity, which were not received by it.

“The Foundation is a private entity, directed like all entities of this nature by statutes and a board of directors. Consequently, the Ministry of Culture, Recreation and Sports does not have the competence to lead actions in the face of the entity’s situation, even so, due to the value that said entity represents for the culture of the city, it has invited its board of directors to act , in order to provide support and facilitate its reorganization to face the multiple administrative and financial situations that require a priority intervention from its managers ”, concludes the statement from the Secretariat.
The Silva Poetry House, being located in the La Candelaria neighborhood, was delivered as a loan to the Foundation from the District Heritage Institute, so that its co-responsibility implies the fulfillment of the property administration commitments.
