The SAT obtains a resolution to collect 3,881 million pesos from Alsea for the purchase of Vips

The restaurant operator Alsea received a notification from the Tax Administration Service (SAT) of a favorable resolution for the tax authority for the collection of 3,881 million pesos derived from the acquisition of Vips from Walmart in 2014.

The company received a notification about the resolution of the revocation appeals filed against the liquidation letters in which it claimed from Alsea the payment of taxes for alleged income from the acquisition of goods, a conflict that dates from the beginning of 2021.

“This resolution confirms the meaning of the liquidation orders originally issued by the SAT,” the company said in a statement sent to the Mexican Stock Exchange.

However, Alsea warned that it will challenge the resolution obtained by the SAT through the courts.

“The company and its external lawyers consider that Alsea has sufficient elements to demonstrate that the liquidation carried out by the SAT is inadmissible and that Alsea has complied in a timely manner with its tax obligations regarding the aforementioned sale and purchase operation,” he said.

The SAT’s actions are part of a collection strategy for large taxpayers that dates back at least a couple of years.

Among the charges that the tax authority has made to companies, cases such as that of Femsa stand out, with whom it agreed to a payment of 8,970 million pesos in May 2020, and which coincided with another negotiation of 8,000 million pesos with Walmart, which occurred in the same month. .

Other companies that have agreed to late payments with the SAT have been Grupo Modelo, with whom a payment of 2,000 million pesos was agreed in August 2020, and Genomma Lab, which agreed to settle 750 million pesos in February 2021.
