Mexico will be able to completely reopen its economy at the end of the third quarter of the year if the vaccination day is maintained at one million inoculated per day, said the Undersecretary of Finance, Gabriel Yorio this Friday.
“If the level of vaccination is maintained at one million per day, plus the batches that we can receive, in September we could probably have adults over 30 years old (…) vaccinated and this will change the dynamics of the country,” he said. Yorio at a press conference.
“To think about a total reopening, if we think about it like that between September and December we may already be seeing total reopens in the sectors and perhaps we are going to experience that the lagging sectors reach pre-pandemic levels,” he added.
The official stressed that in this way, the sectors that have shown a lag in their recovery can return to their pre-pandemic levels this year.
During his participation in a forum at the Universidad Veracruzana, Yorio stressed that this reopening of the economy could help the recovery of formal employment this year, although he admitted that informal employment will take longer to recover.
The Undersecretary of Finance said that Mexicans over 16 years of age can be vaccinated by the end of January of the following year and in the event that the vaccine is approved for those under 15 years of age, the inoculation will take until the first quarter of 2022.
“If we think that this is what the total reopening will allow us because we will no longer be exposed to the serious effects of Covid, that would be the date but we believe that September could be an important economic reopening milestone that will accelerate the recovery, “he added.
