The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has moved the “concern” with which the White House sees the fact that Russia can “repeat” an invasion to Ukraine, as it did in 2014 with the Crimea.
“We are not clear about Moscow’s intentions, but we know its playbook (…) Our concern is that Russia may make the serious mistake of trying to repeat what it undertook in 2014, when it accumulated forces along the border, crossed the sovereign territory of Ukraine and did so by falsely alleging that it was provoked, “said Blinken in the framework of a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dimitro Kuleba , says the Department.
The invasion of the territory located in the Black Sea by Russia was criticized by a large majority of the international community, and even led to the expulsion of Moscow from the G8, in addition to a series of sanctions, reports the US newspaper ‘The Hill’ .
Blinken has remarked that the Administration of President Joe Biden has allocated more than 409,000 million dollars (more than 356,000 million euros) in aid to Ukraine and that Congress has accepted the request of another almost 400 million dollars (about 350 million euros) for the next fiscal year.
“We will work with Congress, ensuring that we continue to provide the security assistance Ukraine needs, including lethal defensive weapons to defend itself against any Russian aggression ,” Blinken said.
For his part, Kuleba has expressed that he is grateful for Washington’s commitment to Kiev in the face of possible Russian aggressions and for the news of continuing with defense and security cooperation.
“The best way to dissuade an aggressive Russia is to make it clear to the Kremlin that Ukraine is strong , but also that it has strong allies who will not leave it alone in the face of Moscow’s growing aggressiveness,” Kuleba concluded.
On the other hand, the White House has reported that the National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan , has held a meeting this Wednesday with the head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak and with Kuleba himself.
“They have discussed the progress made on the bilateral priorities identified by President Biden and the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, in their joint statement on September 1. Both sides welcomed the November 10 relaunch of the Bilateral Strategic Partnership Commission, as well as the ongoing cooperation on energy security, governance reform and the fight against corruption, ”the US government said.
Sullivan, like Blinken, has placed particular emphasis on the “unwavering” commitment of the United States to “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine” , and has welcomed the commitment of Ukrainian officials to the resolution of the conflict in Donbas. .
Before these meetings, the Russian Embassy in Washington has criticized the Biden Administration for not dissuading Ukraine on the warmongering position in Donbas.
