They use graphene to distill vodka

It is the new utility that scientists from the University of Manchestera have found for this revolutionary material – the thinnest and, at the same time, the strongest and most ductile known in the world. In an article published in the latest issue of the journal Science , Professor Andre Geim shows that membranes based on graphene oxide are impervious to all gases and liquids, but that water evaporates through them rapidly. The researchers say that for the experiment they sealed a bottle of vodka with the membrane "just for fun." And they found that, indeed, "the distilled solution got stronger and stronger over time."

"We can't even imagine what other surprises graphene has in store for us," says Geim. "This ability to let only water evaporate is unique and can be used in different situations," he suggests. The membranes used are hundreds of times thinner than human hair , but stronger and more flexible.
