This is Grupo Bimbo's firm commitment to sustainability

Grupo Bimbo is the largest baking company in the world, therefore it understands that its responsibility has an effect on the progress of a changing world.

Its commitment extends to the planet, its resources and the communities in which it is present, through its renewed sustainability strategy in the short, medium and long term.

According to the company’s official statement, this initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and also includes actions that the group has been carrying out for decades.

“We are committed to positively influencing the lives of all the people with whom we connect and in nature. We know that it will not be an easy process, but we have a plan to achieve it. Now, we are expanding the frontiers of the way we do business and we are exploring how interaction with our stakeholders can be improved,” said Daniel Servitje, President and CEO of Grupo Bimbo.

In total, the strategy integrates eight initiatives based on three pillars: For You, For Life, and For Nature, towards 2030. The purpose is to provide better nutrition, fight against environmental degradation and help communities progress.

For You: promoting planetary health diets with nutritional diversity

Through the evolution towards healthier and simpler recipes, Grupo Bimbo seeks to empower consumers to make better purchasing decisions. In this way, the objectives of “For You”, by 2030, include:

1. 100% of the baked goods and snacks offered are made with simple and natural recipes, based on nutritious ingredients, to ensure that there will be accessible options at each point of sale.

2. 100% of the baked goods and snack offerings can be part of a healthy plant-based diet, by including a wide range of whole grains and other healthy ingredients.

3. 100% of the products will provide nutritional and sustainability transparency, both in the information on their packaging and in the data available online. The intention is to promote a healthy diet through specific educational campaigns.

For Life: improve the lives of all the people with whom Grupo Bimbo is linked

As Daniel Servitje assured, “being bakers” allows them to access the homes of their consumers, for this reason, they understand the importance of the participation of communities as agents of change.

Its three objectives in this area are:

1. Strengthen the implementation of projects of the “Good Neighbor” program in each of its work centers, while promoting a culture of volunteering among employees.

2. Strengthen programs dedicated to the value chain, especially those that focus on small farmers and clients.

Similarly, Grupo Bimbo seeks to be a company where all people have access and opportunity to grow, through the creation of safe, healthy, diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaces for its employees.

For Nature: Protect and regenerate natural systems

Participating in the fight against the degradation of ecosystems and their resources is one of Grupo Bimbo’s priorities, which is why its plan in this area determines the promotion of regenerative agriculture practices, the reduction and management of waste, as well as becoming a net zero carbon emissions company.

To achieve this, the group renews its commitment to these three points:

1. Guarantee that 100% of its packaging will contribute to a circular economy, in 2030. Likewise, a 20% reduction in water consumption and 50% in food waste in its operations was established.

2. That 100% of its key ingredients come from land cultivated with regenerative agriculture practices.

3. The most ambitious environmental objective is to achieve zero net carbon emissions, following the framework of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi for its acronym in English), for the transition to a low carbon economy.

In this regard, Rafael Pamias, Deputy General Director and Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Bimbo, explained that although his objective was to mitigate the impact of his operations in the past, now his sustainability platform has evolved.

“This is how we are starting our journey to become a completely regenerative company, with clear and solid commitments. We do so by aligning Grupo Bimbo’s business objectives with our purpose of feeding a better world, a recipe for good”, concluded Pamias.
