The answers to the last question will be a long time coming. After such accidents, it often takes investigators several days to publish initial assumptions about the cause of the accident. It usually takes several months for the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) to submit a final report.
In the investigation of the identity of the dead, the police had already made progress the day before: According to the information, the Robinson R44 helicopter had started in Herzogenaurach in Central Franconia.
Shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, he fell over a forest in Buchen – near the border with Hesse and Bavaria. A little later, witnesses and emergency services, fire brigade and police arrived at the crash site. Specialists from the police, the public prosecutor’s office, forensic medicine and the BFU were also on site. The debris field stretched for hundreds of meters in the middle of the forest.
According to BFU data, helicopter accidents are rather rare. For the past year it shows only four accidents with helicopters in civil aviation in Germany, none of them with seriously injured or fatalities.
