Are you thinking of seeing the solar eclipse from your city? To do this, it is essential that you exercise great caution. For example, you should never look directly at the sun. During the eclipse, the solar brightness decreases, which makes us have less eye discomfort.
However, the energy it emits is just as damaging to the retina, and could damage it in no time. Be very careful! With or without eclipse looking at the Sun directly is quite damaging to your eyesight. In fact, it could cause irreparable damage, such as low vision or even total blindness.
Tips for viewing an eclipse
To observe it safely, it is essential that you get some special glasses for eclipses. These can be found in opticians and shops related to astronomy. Another option is telescopes or binoculars, as long as they have adequate filters.
Use quality filters
If despite the recommendations you want to look directly at the Sun, you will have to be absolutely sure that you have a suitable filter. Remember that just because a filter slightly attenuates light does not mean that it is blocking dangerous radiation or ultraviolet light. This is invisible and could cause a lot of damage to the eyes.
For this reason, it is not advisable to use normal sunglasses or home remedies, as you will not be fully protected from the rays. Remember: no neutral density photographic filters, exposed color films, or X-rays.
Live broadcast
Of course, the safest option is to follow the live broadcast of the different planetariums in Spain (such as the one in Madrid). Or watch it from the outreach channel sky-live.tv, which will broadcast it from the Teide Observatory.
Using projection systems
This is not the best option, but it is a safe method if done with caution. You will need a flat mirror covered completely with paper (from which you will have cut a hole less than a centimeter in diameter).
Under no circumstances will you have to observe the image of the Sun in the mirror, you will only have to look at the projected image.
Follow these tips and watch the eclipse in complete safety!
