Travelers who prove they are vaccinated will be able to enter Spain without restrictions from this Monday

Spain will allow from this Monday the entry of travelers who prove they are vaccinated against Covid-19 from third countries to the European Union and countries associated with Schengen, except India, Brazil and South Africa . A clear worthy of recovery of tourist activity after the effects of restrictive measures by different governments to control the pandemic. However, the tourist arrival data for 2021 will be a long way from recovering the levels prior to the coronavirus crisis.

This is reflected in an order published last Saturday in the Official State Gazette (BOE) by which the criteria for the application of the temporary restriction of non-essential trips from third countries to the European Union and Schengen associated countries are modified for reasons of public order and public health due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19.

The Order notes that the current moment recommends the introduction of a new criterion related to vaccination. Specifically, the new modification allows the entry to Spain of people with a vaccination certificate that the Ministry of Health recognizes for this purpose, after verification by the health authorities, as well as the accompanying minors to whom the Ministry extends the effects .

The vaccines accepted to date by the EMA or WHO are Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen, Sinopharm and Sinovac-Coronavac .

«In the case of people arriving at any airport located in the Kingdom of Spain, with or without intermediate stopovers, on flights from airports located in third countries, who are subjected to quarantine by Order of the Ministry of Health, while that order is in force, only the exceptions set out in letters d), e) and i) will be applicable, except in the case of persons residing in Spain or Andorra, or spouses of Spanish citizens or couples with whom they maintain a union similar to the spouse registered in a public registry, or those ascendants and descendants who live under their care, provided they travel with or to meet with the Spanish citizen, ”the BOE states.

Restrictions for India, Brazil and South Africa

With a mandatory 10-day quarantine, only India is currently available , but there is also a limitation on travel from Brazil or South Africa that, in practice, excludes them from entering Spain despite being vaccinated.

At the end of May, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced that Spain will allow entry to travelers from all countries who certify that they have received the complete schedule of a vaccine recognized by the World Organization for Health (WHO) or the European Medicines Agency (EMA) .

Sánchez presented the EU Covid Green Certificate at Fitur, which will be launched on July 1 and will facilitate the mobility of vaccinated European citizens who have passed the disease or who present a negative test within the EU.
