In the coronavirus pandemic, 2G-plus applies in many places in Germany as a condition for the exemption from the obligation to test. Where a booster is not absolutely necessary. And where this is not even enough.
Munich – fitness studios, gastronomy, cultural institutions – in many places in Germany the 2G-plus certificate is the condition for being exempt from the obligation to test. Or to gain access in the first place and to be able to use the possibilities of leisure activities such as cinemas.
Corona pandemic in Germany: Different rules for 2G-plus
Or to be able to attend a normal visit to the hairdresser. As is so often the case in the Covid crisis, the federal state with its 16 federal states is a patchwork of corona rules*.
Where convalescents also belong to 2G-plus and under what conditions. And where even recovery after an infection with the corona virus* is not enough. Between Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, between NRW and Saxony, between Hamburg and Berlin – IPPEN.MEDIA provides an overview.
Baden-Württemberg: Those who have recovered will soon need a full vaccination
In the southwest, people who have had a full basic immunization (two vaccinations) or who have recovered from an infection are exempt from the test for three months.
After that, even those who have recovered twice vaccinated must have a corona booster vaccination (refresher vaccination)* so that they do not also have to present a negative rapid antigen test*. This also applies to vaccinated people who have not (yet) been given boosters. For example in the gym.
Bavaria: Double vaccinated plus recovered means no corona test obligation
According to the Bavarian state government, “people who have survived an infection after full immunization and people who have already been vaccinated twice after their recovery” belong to the 2G-plus group. People who have had a full basic immunization (two vaccinations) but cannot prove that they have had a booster vaccination are not included.
As reported by the Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), an infection in Bavaria is treated like a vaccination. Since under Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) in Bavaria the facility-related corona vaccination requirement* for employees in medical and nursing facilities such as hospitals, retirement or nursing homes is suspended, exceptions also apply here.
Berlin: Doubly vaccinated and recovered from Corona is not enough
Recovered people who can demonstrate a complete basic immunization with two vaccinations do not fall under 2G-plus. You also need a booster vaccination. Only those who have been vaccinated three times may, for example, take advantage of the offer indoors in the catering trade.
Brandenburg: 2G-plus only after booster vaccination
Vaccinated and recovered? Recovered and then fully vaccinated? All of this is not enough in the eastern federal state with its around 2.5 million inhabitants. Anyone who wants to use facilities under 2G-plus conditions must provide proof of a booster vaccination against the corona virus*.
Bremen: The smallest federal state has two exceptions to the corona test obligation
The smallest federal state with around 580,000 inhabitants, which came through the corona pandemic relatively well, has two exceptions ready with a view to 2G-plus.
Both people are exempt from the test obligation, whose second vaccination was not more than three months ago. As well as those people who are considered to have recovered from an infection for no longer than three months.
Hamburg: Recovered plus double vaccinated equals boosted
The Hamburg Senate explains: “Anyone who is infected and recovered after a complete series of vaccinations has an increased level of protection comparable to the booster vaccination.” This means: Proof of recovery plus proof of a double vaccination against corona are like the vaccination status evaluated after a booster immunization. Double vaccinated plus recovered equals boosted.
On the other hand, if you have had two vaccinations but not yet a booster vaccination, you will need an additional test in many facilities. For example for tourist harbor tours, at trade fairs, in theatres, concert halls such as the Elbphilharmonie, in gastronomy or for body care services (except hairdressers).

Hesse: 2G-plus only with booster vaccination against Corona
Only people with proof of a booster vaccination (three vaccinations) are exempt from compulsory testing. Everyone else doesn’t. 2G-plus applies, for example, when attending major events such as Eintracht Frankfurt* football matches.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Booster vaccination is necessary for 2G-plus
Only people with proof of a booster vaccination (three vaccinations) are exempt from compulsory testing. Everyone else doesn’t. An example: In the north-east of the Federal Republic, clubs and discos are allowed to open again, and dance events are also generally allowed again. But all this only under 2G-plus.
Lower Saxony: Two vaccinations plus a breakthrough infection are sufficient
Anyone who has been vaccinated twice and had a breakthrough infection after the two vaccinations does not have to show a negative test. For comparison: Anyone who first had an infection and only then had the two vaccinations still has to be tested for various offers. This also shows that only the booster vaccination guarantees proof of 2G-plus.
North Rhine-Westphalia: Vaccinated and recovered is immediately boosted
With a booster vaccination, there is no obligation to test, just like if people have had two vaccinations against Corona and have also been infected with the virus.
Rhineland-Palatinate: There is an exception here too
Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) recently explained: “Even people who have recently – i.e. less than three months ago – been vaccinated twice or who have recovered or who have recovered after a double vaccination are exempt from the obligation to test as part of the 2G-Plus Regulation exempted.” Means: If someone is fully immunized and has recovered from an infection, they do not have to show a negative test. But: This only applies up to three months after recovery.
Saarland: With a view to 2G-plus, things get really tricky here
Things get particularly tricky on the Saar. Those who have recovered and then received two vaccinations have access under 2G-plus conditions. Anyone who has received two vaccinations and then had a breakthrough infection is not included. These people need to get tested (or boosted).

Saxony: vaccinated and recovered? Then no test is needed
Anyone who has been vaccinated twice and recovered does not need an additional test where the 2G-plus rule applies. Two vaccinations is not enough, nor is recovery from an infection, no matter how long ago.
Saxony-Anhalt: Not even those who have been boosted are exempt from the corona test obligation
The special feature: 2G-plus events always require a negative test for the corona virus. Neither those who have recovered from a breakthrough infection nor those who have been boosted are exempt from the test requirement.
Schleswig-Holstein: The booster vaccination is a prerequisite
Only people with proof of a booster vaccination (three vaccinations) are exempt from compulsory testing. Everyone else doesn’t.
Thuringia: 2G-plus is not possible without a booster vaccination
Only people with proof of a booster vaccination (three vaccinations) are exempt from compulsory testing. Everyone else doesn’t. (pm) * Merkur.de and fr.de are offers from IPPEN.MEDIA
