Thousands of people are fleeing the war in Ukraine. They can find refuge in Lower Saxony.
Hanover – The situation in the Ukraine conflict is getting worse: Lower Saxony* is preparing to take in refugees from Ukraine and will expand its capacities even further. “We are creating space for new places,” said Interior Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) on NDR. The municipalities in Lower Saxony should also check whether more space can be offered.
According to the information, the state reception centers for refugees in Lower Saxony are currently at an occupancy rate of almost 75 percent. It is not yet clear whether and in which direction there will be refugee movements from Ukraine. It is completely open how many refugees there could be from Ukraine – according to Pistorius, that could be a few hundred thousand, but also a million or two million people. Around 100,000 refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Poland so far.
Lower Saxony: Interior Minister warns of cyber attacks because of the Ukraine war
Pistorius also warned of cyber attacks on NDR: “The authorities are on alert, we have been preparing for a week.” Attacks on cities and municipalities are common, and it is also known that Russian hackers are on the move. “The threat cannot be precisely assessed,” said the minister.
