WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram begin to recover after more than 6 hours of fall

Facebook has suffered a drop in its service worldwide that has also affected Instagram and WhatsApp . In the early afternoon, the social network has left the millions of users who use it around the world without service. Although slowly, services have started to recover around 11:45 p.m., Spanish time.

The American giant led by Mark Zuckerberg has suffered a general drop in its services and applications this Monday afternoon. WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram have stopped working globally and the service has begun to reestablish six hours later.

Apparently, the widespread failure in Facebook services has been caused by a problem in the DNS that give names to Internet domains. According to specialized media, this problem would have been produced precisely by a direct action of the Menlo Park (California) company itself, which would have disconnected from the service to avoid a cyberattack, although this point is still unconfirmed.

The recovery of this type of service, which affects millions of people around the planet, usually occurs gradually. Any sign of life from applications causes users to jump into using them again, which can lead to an even slower recovery.

Mark Zuckerberg’s company spoke out within hours of the outage of the service with a message through his Twitter account. “We are concerned that some people have experienced problems accessing our apps or products. We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience, “they say.

The company’s top technical manager has revealed, although without giving many more details, that the company was experiencing “problems in its network.” Mike Schroepfer said tonight that engineers were working to end the error and “restore as soon as possible” service.

What has occurred is the reaction of users, who have used other social networks such as Twitter to account for the loss of the different Facebook products worldwide. From Canada, through Spain, Brazil or Asian countries, all of them have suffered the same problem.

The service that seems to have impacted the most worldwide has been WhatsApp. Users have started looking for alternatives and have started to download and use Telegram, another messaging network, which in turn has caused this service to fall due to saturation.

It is not the first time that networks such as Facebook or Instagram suffer a loss of service worldwide, but the curious thing about what happened this Monday is that the entire ecosystem of the company based in Menlo Park (California) is that all its flagship products, those used by millions of people around the planet have fallen at the same time.

According to Statista, last March Facebook had 2.74 billion active users, while WhatsApp has 2 billion. All of them will have been affected this Monday by the fall of the service.

How can the fall of Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook affect the world ?: Millions of people use these three networks on a daily basis. In fact, WhtasApp has more than 19.4 hours of use per month and 70% of its users consult the application every day.

    • The fall of WhatsApp can affect companies that use the instant messaging application for work. Although there is no concrete data, it is estimated that around 175 million messages are sent to companies every day.
    • Only in Spain, WhatsApp has 33 million users and its use among the adult population is very high: there are many who use this application to communicate quickly and effectively at work, so this drop can seriously affect people business communications.
    • For its part, Instagram has more than 20 million users, most of them between 18 and 39 years old, and for this reason there are many brands that try to reach out to young people through this application.

What alternatives are there ?: Telegram, Discord or Line have established themselves as the best alternatives to WhatsApp. There are many users who, tired of the crashes of the messaging network servers and the security flaws, have looked for new applications.

    • Telegram has established itself as the eternal alternative to WhatsApp in recent years. In addition to being easy to use, it is a good broadcast channel and offers a myriad of features for private and group conversations.
