"Houston, we have a problem ." The popular phrase was uttered on April 13, 1970 , when the three NASA astronauts of the Apollo 13 mission, two days after liftoff, were forced to abandon their plans to make the third manned moon landing due to the explosion of the oxygen tanks .
The fuel cells that provided electricity, water, oxygen and light failed when the astronauts were approximately 200,000 miles from Earth. From that moment on, his only objective was to return home alive. The rescue plan consisted of using the Aquarius lunar module as a lifeboat , a process that Gene Kranz successfully coordinated from the mainland. The survival of the Apollo 13 crew was one of the most celebrated triumphs of American spaceflight of the 20th century.
