Measures, increasing numbers of infections and problems with the vaccination campaign resulted in a long hard lockdown in winter. The RKI is currently reporting comparatively low numbers, and Germany is flourishing after many Corona * rules have been abolished. But the delta variant could thwart the mood by autumn at the latest. And indeed: the number of dangerous virus mutations is already increasing significantly.
Corona in Germany: Delta variant is spreading in the southwest – the increase is drastic
The delta variant of the virus * is spreading rapidly, especially in southwest Germany, but still at a low level. According to information from the State Health Office on Monday, the number of this variant (as of June 21, 4 p.m.) was 368. In the past two weeks, their share of all dangerous variants was 6.73 percent. In the first and second weeks of June, the percentage was 2.74 percent. The increase was – also because of the base effect – very clear at 146 percent. This does not even contain numbers that cannot be assigned to the delta variant with absolute certainty.
The gamma variant discovered in Brazil is also increasing, but more slowly than the delta version. The variants discovered in Great Britain and South Africa are on the decline; However, the British variant of the virus is by far the predominant among the worrying mutations with 133,033 since December 2020.
Corona in Germany: Expert fears difficult conditions for herd immunity
According to one expert, it is precisely this mutation that could make it difficult to achieve herd immunity. In India, the delta mutation had already caused many deaths and an extreme corona wave.
