Colombo – A blue sapphire weighing 310 kilograms has been found in Sri Lanka.
The gemstone has 1.5 million carats, said the island state's National Gem and Jewelery Authority on Tuesday, which has examined and certified it according to its own information. The owner wants to sell the stone to a museum so that it stays in one piece.
The man found the stone on private property in Ratnapura, around 100 kilometers east of the capital Colombo. He called him "Queen of Asia". There are already purchase offers from the USA and Dubai. dpa
