Origin

Amancio Ortega opened the first Zara store in La Coruña in 1975 . At that time he thought of baptizing his establishment with the name of “Zorba” after seeing the movie “Zorba the Greek.” But when he found out that there was a bar with the same name nearby, he rearranged the letters until he found the name “Zara.”

The first company that Amancio Ortega created with his wife, Rosalía Mera, is called Confecciones GOA. It was dedicated to making boatiné robes and bathrobes. The factory continues to operate today. It is located in the Polígono Industrial de Sabón, in Arteixo.

Models

Zara has a total of 30 sets at the Arteixo factory, where dozens of models are working at full capacity. Each model tries on about 15 dresses per day, and takes about 100 photos for each garment .
