There is a heat wave in Southeastern Europe and the weather here is rainy. Is the heat coming to us too? It was already an extraordinary summer.
Offenbach – Summer 2021 is a summer * of extremes in Europe. Southeast Europe in particular is currently struggling with a historic heat wave. In Germany, on the other hand, autumn prevailed in August: clouds are gathering from the west, which could cause strong thunderstorms * and sometimes severe weather * in the next few days. In some places new floods are also to be expected. It should already be wet in Germany on Tuesday (August 3rd, 2021). How will the weather * develop in the next few days?
“Heavy showers and thunderstorms arrive in the west during these hours,” explains meteorologist Dominik Jung * from the Q.met weather service to wetter.net. First of all, the Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate are affected, then the weather situation moves further east – Hesse, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia are the next to get the rain. In the north and east of Germany it remains friendly at first, but it can get wet there too.

Weather in Germany: autumn weather in August
“None of this has much to do with midsummer,” says Jung. “The coming days won’t bring much warmth either. Until the weekend and probably beyond, things will continue to change. ”Until then, the weather will be changeable, and it will rain again and again. A weather situation that is usual for autumn * or April – but not August.
The heat is stuck in south-east Europe. 40 to 46 degrees Celsius * are expected there by the weekend. Particularly affected: Greece and Turkey. The heat can even be life-threatening here, because the extreme heat is an enormous burden on the circulation, says Jung.
With us, such temperatures are a long way off. The changeable weather will stay with us until the middle of the month, according to Jung’s forecast. “At the moment, however, you cannot say whether the summer will dare to come back to us again afterwards.”

Weather in Germany: no summer in sight – storms and thunderstorms in August
So summery is not to be expected until mid-August, instead it remains changeable and quite cool. At times, a maximum of 25 degrees can be reached, but only regionally and strictly limited. The summer was already unusually warm. “If the summer were already over today, it would be – surprise – the fourth warmest summer since 1881”, says Jung.
Accordingly, June 2021 was the third warmest June since 1881. July 2021 was also 1.5 degrees above the climate mean for this month. “We felt very differently. That was mainly due to the changeable weather ”, says weather expert Jung. It remains to be seen whether such weather will return. (spr)
