Terminally ill dog is stuck in a traffic jam: Missing rescue barrel hinders emergency services

Rescue at the last second: If there is a traffic jam on the A6, the police help a terminally ill dog. But the operation is not going completely smoothly.

Heilbronn – As is well known, a rescue lane in traffic jams saves lives. But that it can also save animal lives became apparent on Monday (08/09/2021). When a woman tried to drive her terminally ill dog Tucker to the Heilbronn veterinary clinic, she got stuck in a mile-long traffic jam. According to the Heilbronn police headquarters, the owner called the police shortly afterwards in desperation.

The Heilbronn rescue workers acted quickly and escorted the little four-legged friend across the rescue alley to the veterinary clinic. “According to the doctors, just in time to save Tucker’s life,” as the Heilbronn police reported on their Facebook page.

Traffic jam on the A6 near Heilbronn: “Numerous vehicles blocked the way”

However, according to the Heilbronn Police Headquarters, the rescue operation went anything but good. “Numerous vehicles blocked the way, some even tried to hang onto the escorting police car,” writes the Heilbronn police on their Facebook page.

On its Facebook page, the police headquarters gives tips on how to behave in a traffic jam:

  • As soon as a traffic jam forms (even when traffic is slow), drivers and everyone else who is involved in road traffic must also form an emergency lane
  • The rescue lane is always formed between the leftmost lane and the one immediately to the right of it
  • Anyone who violates the regulation for the formation of a rescue alley must expect a fine of at least 200 euros and two points in Flensburg. In special cases, violations can result in up to 320 euros, two points and a month’s driving ban or even a criminal complaint and the withdrawal of the driver’s license.
  • An emergency lane may not be closed again even after the first emergency vehicle has passed through. More rescue vehicles could follow. (Ares Abasi)
