Berlin – The “Tageschau” spokeswoman Judith Rakers (45) can not cook well in her own words – but she now shines with homemade spreads.

Her varieties are diverse and come from bushes and trees that she often planted herself. “I used all the mirabelle plums from my garden to make jam, it tastes fantastic and I eat it every morning for breakfast. And only recently I discovered that a cherry plum grows with me – I hadn’t even noticed it as a fruit tree, ”explained the hobby farmer and author who lives on the outskirts of Hamburg (“ Homefarming – self-sufficiency without a green thumb ”, 2021).
All the fruit has to be processed, so she first became a jam cook.
For a professional assignment, Rakers (NDR- “Inselgeschichten”) had to have friends look after her 4,000 square meter garden, including house and animals, temporarily. Because recently she has been the permanent presenter of the travel program “Wunderschön!”, Which has been running since 2008 on WDR and NDR. Five contributions are initially planned. On Sunday (August 20) at 8.15 p.m. it starts with “Beautiful! Danube journey – From Passau to Vienna ”. This is followed by reports on nature, culture and culinary delights from northern Spain and Lake Maggiore (Italy) and – to be seen in 2022 – from the Lüneburg Heath and Cornwall (Great Britain). dpa
