According to a new survey, young people in Germany have a certain ideal of life: getting married and having children. The majority of the younger generation wanted to live like their parents do today.
Hamburg – According to a representative survey, marriage with a marriage certificate and children is the ideal of many younger people in Germany.
In a survey by the Opaschowski Institute for Future Issues (OIZ), 57 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds supported the statement: “Marriage with a marriage certificate and children will be the most desirable life model in the future.” In a similar survey last year, 56 percent of the Respondents hold this view. With 62 percent agreement, the classic family model is much more popular with young women than with young men, of whom only 52 percent supported the statement.
“The young generation is now longing for stability, security and social security on the way into post-pandemic times,” said the Hamburg futurologist Horst Opaschowski (80). Marriage has not lost its esteem and its role model. “Most young people hold on to their wish for the future: Live like their parents do today!”
In the older generation, value-conservative attitudes dominated at all times, Opaschowski continued. According to the latest survey, almost three quarters (72 percent) of those over 65 stuck to the classic husband model. The approval rate was 63 percent across all age groups. dpa
