Jameis Winston remains with the New Orleans Saints. According to media reports, the quarterback will receive a one-year contract worth up to twelve million dollars.
Winston was already in the Saints’ squad last year, but acted as a backup behind the recently retired Drew Brees and was not allowed to start when he was injured.
Now it is expected that Winston will get the chance to fight for the place as starting QB over the offseason and in the training camp in an open competition with all-purpose weapon Taysom Hill.
As ESPN reports, the Chicago Bears are said to have shown great interest in Winston before he finally decided on the Saints.
Winston was the first pick overall in the 2015 draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He always showed great potential, but also a clear tendency to make hair-raising mistakes. This was symbolized by his final season for the Bucs 2019, when he was the first quarterback ever to throw at least 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
Then the Bucs let him go without a fight and signed Tom Brady, who promptly led the team to the Super Bowl success.
